Good supply of commercial premises and development-ready land
In Strängnäs municipality there is plenty of land planned and ready for development and attractive commercial locations where new operations can be established at competitive prices.
Over the past few years a number of factors have contributed to the highly advantageous current situation. The expansion of the E20 motorway with a new stretch has created the Gorsinge/Biskopskvarn area, which has around 150 attractive commercial and industrial sites. Also the decision to close down the P10 armoured tank regiment, the first step of which has released some 80 hectares for future development in the Eldsunda Park area. In addition, final negotiations are currently under way regarding the acquisition of an additional 600 hectares of land previously used as a training ground by the military.

Road: Motorway E20 east/west and trunk road 55 north/south.
Rail: Express train line, the Svealand Line (Svealandsbanan) around Lake Mälaren.
Strängnäs municipality also has its own port for small-scale sea freight with a gross tonnage of up to around 2,500.
Major future infrastructure changes
Population and living
Strängnäs municipality is located along the shores of Lake Mälaren, which makes it an attractive place to live and provides opportunities for recreation in beautiful natural surroundings.
The population growth in the municipality continues to accelerate. The total population by the year 2020 is estimated to be around 40,000.
Many new areas are being developed to provide different types of attractive living options. The municipality is now in the process of completing detailed plans for at least 4,000 homes to be built by 2020. A significant portion of this development will be adjacent to Eldsunda Park, Norra fältet, Tosterö, Strängnäs City, Mariefred, Läggesta and Åker.
Infrastructure
The Svealand Line (Svealandsbanan): There are plans to expand rail transportation on the Svealand Line. The municipality is working to bring about the construction of a double track along the entire route from Eskilstuna to Stockholm well in advance of 2015. The first step is expected to be to increase the number of sidings and siding stations, making it possible to increase the frequency of trains, particularly during the rush hour.
In connection with the expansion of the Svealand Line, Strängnäs municipality is also working to ensure that the need for industrial or private sidings is met.
Three-lane road: Aside from the development of the Svealand Line, the expansion of trunk road 55 north in the direction of Enköping and south in the direction of Malmköping (KDR Länna) is the infrastructure issue with the highest priority for Strängnäs municipality. This road connects Mälardalen with Sweden’s fourth metropolitan area, Norrköping/Linköping in the south, and with the northern Stockholm region/Uppsala/Arlanda in the North.
Strängnäs municipality is planning and working towards expanding the road to have three lanes on the whole Malmköping – Enköping stretch.
Education
Strängnäs municipality has a reputation as a centre for education and is working on further strengthening this reputation. This means a focus on high quality throughout the education chain – from preschool to higher education.
Continuous development is under way to be able to offer programmes with a global focus in
social sciences and
